To help your upcoming meeting go as smoothly as possible, please complete the steps below beforehand.

Important: iPhones can only be properly supervised by another iPhone, iPad, or Mac. If you don't have access to one of these devices, please let us know in advance. Please also make careful note of all account emails and passwords you create during this process — you will need them again.
STEP ONE Try Apple's Quick Start

Try using Apple's Quick Start feature to set up your child's iPhone.

This only works if both devices are running iOS 16 (or the equivalent iPadOS/macOS) or higher.
  • Turn on your child's new device and swipe up to unlock it.
  • Select your country or region and your language.
  • Place your device near your child's new device, then follow the steps that appear on your device.
If you're unable to use Quick Start, or you run into any issues, move on to Step Two below.
STEP TWO Set up the device manually
If you were unable to use Quick Start, follow these steps to set up the device manually instead.
  1. Turn on the new device.
  2. When the Quick Start screen appears, tap Set Up Without Another Device, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Select Set Up for a Child in My Family when prompted.
  4. When setup is complete, open Settings, tap Family, and confirm that your child's new account is listed.
    If it's not listed, tap Add in the top right of the screen, tap Invite Others, select Invite in Person, and sign in to the account you just created for your child.

To help your upcoming meeting go as smoothly as possible, please complete the steps below beforehand.

Important: Please make careful note of all account emails and passwords you create during this process — you will need them again.
STEP ONE Prepare accounts for your child
  1. Download Google Family Link on your phone.
  2. Sign in using your email.
  3. Select Add Child and create a new account for your child if they don't already have one.
    If they already have an account, but it isn't managed by you (i.e., it was created by your child and you haven't set up supervision), we encourage you to create a new one instead.
STEP TWO Prepare your child's phone
This step can be skipped if you've already set up your child's device.
  1. Turn on the phone and connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Choose Don't Copy if you're prompted to transfer or copy apps & data from another device.
  3. Sign in to Google Services with the email you created in Step One.
    Important: this may not work on devices running Android OS version 6 (Marshmallow) or lower — see device compatibility here. If sign-in is unsuccessful, continue with the steps below.
If Step 3 was unsuccessful:
  1. Select Skip when prompted to sign in with a Google Account, to use the device without one, then agree to the terms of service.
  2. Select Skip if prompted to sign in with a Samsung Account, then agree to the terms of service.
  1. Navigate to Settings → Software Update → Download and Install any available updates.
  2. Navigate to Google Play, tap the three dots in the corner, and update Google Play Services and System Parental Controls.
  3. Navigate to Settings → Account → Sign in with Google, enter the email you created for your child in Step One, and follow the on-screen instructions.
